Mathematics at the service of art! Choper Nawers (Christopher Cisneros from Sinaloa), using vector-based digital illustration techniques, creates this composition in which two icons of Mexican identity merge and contrast: on one side, death, represented by the little skull girl, and on the other, the watermelon, the red African fruit brought by the Spanish and acclimatized in Mexico, which represents life and the vibrant spirit of Mexicans, especially when it comes to the skeleton that takes young and old alike. It’s no coincidence that this fruit is the protagonist of a few brief and juicy verses from a haiku by our poet José Juan Tablada: “Of summer, red and cold laughter, slice of watermelon!”
