Could’ve Been. Let’s imagine Emiliano Zapata hadn’t been killed. Maybe he would’ve become a democratic leader. Maybe Mexico would’ve seen a sweeping land reform and stronger social justice.
His leadership might’ve shaken the elite and totally changed the country’s political and economic system.
Or maybe, drunk on power, he could’ve turned into a sort of authoritarian emperor, pushing his ideas above all else.
We’ll never know.
